The rally ‘On Tour’ with classic cars and the super and hypercar rally ‘Extravaganza’ will gather the selected participating vehicles in the morning on the spacious forecourt of the old fortification. Fort San Carles overlooks the harbour of Palma on a strategically located fortified promontory and offers spectacular views of the sea. It is a special place that the ICONS are allowed to use – because Fort San Carles is also an icon of Palma in its own way. Incomparable, historic, architecturally exciting and graceful. Fortalesa de Sant Carles is a historic fortress on the Carretera al Dic del l’Oest, around 3 kilometres south of Castell de Bellver.

Since ancient times, the bay of Cala de Portopí has been a strategically important point to protect the harbour of Palma from pirates and privateers. In the 13th century, a defence tower – the Torre de Senyals de Portopí – was built on the site of the later fortress, which also served as a beacon. Planning for the castle complex on the western boundary of the city walls of Palma began in early 1600 on the orders of King Felipe III. Construction began in 1608 and the first section was completed in 1610. The extension was completed in 1612, with the old defence tower being incorporated into the fortress and forming the eastern corner of the fortress. At this time, the castle was still called Castell de Portopí, but the name was later changed to Fortalesa de Sant Carles. In 1662 – 1663, the fortress was enclosed with a fortification wall, giving it its current rectangular shape. In 1981, the fortress was remodelled and turned into a museum.

It’s just the right place to start the morning, enjoy a small snack and set the scene for teams and vehicles.

Fort San Carles is where it all starts.
